Effect of Flavonoids on Daunorubicin‐induced Toxicity in H9c2 Cardiomyoblasts

Abstract: a known cardioprotective antioxidant. These results are consistent with the notion that the use of flavonoids may be beneficial in modulating or preventing the cardiotoxicity associated with DNR therapy.

“…Transmission electron microscopic observations confirmed the protection of mitochondrial architecture Naringenin 10 24 -10 25 mol/L H9c2 cardiomyocyte cells Naringenin inhibited daunorubicin apoptosis of H9c2 cardiomyocytes cells in vitro (73) concentration and pancreatic architecture in db/db mice at a supplementation dose of 0.2 g/kg of diet (80). Alteration of glucose-regulating enzyme activities also plays a crucial role in the glucose-lowering effect of naringin in experimental animals (80).…”

“…The cardioprotective effects of flavonoids are well documented (Table 3) (28,73,74). Isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction was prevented by naringin supplementation (40 mg $ kg 21 $ d 21 ) in rats (70).…”

“…This study showed that acrolein-induced cytotoxicity, protein damage, lipid peroxidation, and cell death might be avoided by pretreatment with PBE. Mojzisova et al (2009) observed the cardioprotective role of quercetin, naringenin and PBE and synthetic antioxidant trolox against daunorubicin-induced toxicity. MTT test and determination of extracellular lactate dehydrogenase were used as parameters of cardiomycete protection.…”

“…Hence, regulation of intracellular ROS and modification of the apoptotic cascade may be an effective way to reduce pathological apoptosis. Flavonoids, a group of polyphenol compounds, constitute a major part of effective components in traditional Chinese herbal medicines, such as Ginkgo biloba, Panax notoginseng, and Radix Puerariae and so on, that are frequently used to treat cardiovascular disease [Mahady, 2002;Ng, 2006;Zhang et al, 2008;Mojzisova et al, 2009]. They demonstrate diverse biological and pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, vasodilatation, and improving blood circulation, among others.…”
