Effect of filament fineness on comfort characteristics of moisture management finished polyester knitted fabrics

Abstract: Clothing comfort is an important aspect for any garment used for sportswear and leisurewear. Every human being sweats during different kinds of activities. An important feature of any fabric is how it transports this water out of the body surface so as to make the wearer feel comfortable. Hence, wetting and wicking properties are critical aspects during wearing of clothes. Polyester micro-fibers have twin characteristics of durability and comfort. The usage of continuous filament micro-denier polyester yarn fo… Show more

“…Unfortunately, the wicking property between inner and outer surfaces of the fabrics made of cotton fibers is very poor; this makes cotton unsuitable for use against the skin during energetic activity. However, fabrics made of modified Polyester can give better moisture management, especially with using fine filament yarn [13][14][15][16][17][18]. Moisture management of fabrics not only depends on the materials, but also on their assembly in the fabric.…”

“…Rossi, Stämpfli, Psikuta, Rechsteiner, and Brühwiler (2011) stated that the Xray tomography is a tool to analyse the transient three-dimensional water transport in the transverse and longitudinal direction. Sampath, Senthilkumar, and Nalankilli (2011) stated that the analysis of transverse wicking characteristics of the fabric is also important as well as longitudinal wicking because the perspiration (sweat) transfer from skin involves its movement through the lateral direction of the fabric and it eliminates the directional effect and the results are most effective for developing sportswear. Nyoni and Brook (2010) developed an apparatus to measure the effect of yarn and fabric displacement on the longitudinal wicking rate as the samples were subjected to different ranges of cyclic loads.…”
