“…All reagents used in this study are of reagent grade except AF65 (commercial grade). Sodium oleate (Samchun Chemical Co., Ltd., Yeosu, Korea), which is known to be used often in the flotation research on scheelite and Ca-bearing minerals [15,16], and AF65 (Cytec Industries Inc., Woodland Park, NJ, USA) were used as a collector and a frother, respectively. A mixture of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO 4 •7H 2 O, Samchun Chemical Co., Ltd., Yeosu, Korea), or oxalic acid (C 2 H 2 O 4 •2H 2 O, Samchun Chemical Co., Ltd., Yeosu, Korea) with sodium silicate (Na 2 SiO 3 , Samchun Chemical Co., Ltd., Yeosu, Korea) was used as a depressant.…”

“…However, since scheelite (CaWO 4 ) contains calcium components, it is closely related to other Ca-bearing minerals such as calcite (CaCO 3 ) and fluorite (CaF 2 ). Scheelite has similar physicochemical properties, such as the existence of the same cations (Ca 2+ ) in the mineral, solubility, hardness, specific gravity, and point of zero charge [12,13], which causes similar chemisorption behavior of the fatty acid and a fatty acid derivative as a collector on the Ca-bearing minerals [9,[14][15][16]. Generally, it has been found that sodium silicate is the most widely used depressant for selective flotation of scheelite [15], and assistant depressant such as ferrous sulfate has been investigated [15,16].…”

“…Silicic acid binds the calcium cations of the mineral surface; however, the Pb-BHA complexes recognize the oxygen bonds on the mineral surface, and thus, the adsorption of silicic acid (or Al-Na 2 SiO 3 polymer) and Pb-BHA occurs at different sites. This mechanism is very different from traditional fatty acid flotation, where the fatty acid and silicic acid both react with the calcium cations on the mineral surface in a competitive manner [7,9,11,16].…”

“…The selective adsorption of sodium silicate on minerals is significantly improved by modification with polyvalent metal ions, such as Fe(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Mg(II), and Al(III) [10,12,[14][15][16], especially for application in scheelite flotation. The Pb-benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) complex, a novel metal-organic collector, has shown specificity toward scheelite, contributing to the flotation separation of scheelite from other calcium minerals [4,17,18].…”
