Effect of ethyl acetate extract from husk fiber water of Cocos nucifera in Leishmania braziliensis infected hamsters

Abstract: Abstract:The objective of this study was to evaluate the treatment with ethyl acetate extract (EAE) from husk fiber water of Cocos nucifera L., Arecaceae, in L. braziliensis (Lb) infected hamsters. Twelve male hamsters were randomly allocated in three groups (n=4): G1 received only EAE; G2 was infected with Lb only and G3 received EAE after Lb infection. The infection was carried 28 days prior to the treatment with EAE, which was administrated (0.2 mL, 300 mg.kg -1 ) for 21 consecutive days. Infection was eval… Show more

“…Ethyl acetate extract (EAE) from husk fiber water was tested against L. braziliensis infected hamsters ( 35 ). Administering EAE (0.2 mL, 300 mg/kg) for 21 consecutive days did not reduce edema of infected footpad nor the weight of lymph node drainage but reduced skin lesions after 14 days.…”

“…Peruvians orally use the aqueous extract of fresh coconut fiber for asthma, diuretics, and gonorrhea (Lima et al, 2015). Presence of polyphenols such as catechins, flavonoids and tannins were reported in high quantity in ethyl acetate extract (Matos, 1997;Freitas et al, 2011;Pal et al, 2011;Renjith et al, 2013). South Indian people utilize fibrous husks for brushing the teeth is a common dental care practice of many rural individuals.…”
