Effect of electron‐beam irradiation followed by annealing on the physical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol)–chitosan blend films at different weight ratios

Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of electron‐beam irradiation followed by annealing on the physical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)–chitosan (CS) blend films. Solution‐cast films containing various ratios of polymers were exposed to irradiation doses of 26, 39, and 52 kGy at room temperature and then annealed at 100 °C. The results show that at all doses, with an increase in the weight ratio of CS, the gel content of the samples decreased, and the water absorption of the samples increase… Show more

“…structure and caused polymer chain scission. 25 The elongation at break of the PLA/PVA-MCSNPs laminate film irradiated at 0 kGy was 16.0 ± 0.5%. At 10, 30 and 50 kGy, the elongation at break decreased to 13.8 ± 0.5, 7.3 ± 0.5, and 6.8 ± 0.4%.…”

“…The gel fraction can also indicate the cross-linking density of the CS/PVA hydrogels made using the F-T method. , When the number of F-T cycles goes from one to three, there’s a sharp rise in the tensile and compression strength, and GF. But adding more F-T cycles after that does not increase these parameters as much.…”
