Effect of (—)Eburnamonine, Papaverine and UDP-Glucose on Cerebral Energy State during and after Experimental Hypoxia and Ischaemia in Beagle Dog

Abstract: The effect of (—)eburnamonine, papaverine and UDP-glucose intracarotid perfusion has been evaluated in the brain of beagle dogs during various conditions of cerebral damage (hypoxia, hypoxia plus incomplete ischaemia, hypoxia plus complete ischaemia), and after 3, 15 or 30 min of the post-hypoxic recovery and recirculation. The behaviour of fuels (glycogen, glucose), of glycolytic pathway intermediates (glucose-6-phosphate, pyruvate) and end-product (lactate), of the pool of labile phosphates (ATP, ADP, AMP, c… Show more

“…Dihydropyrido [1,2-a]indolone (DHPI) skeletons are commonly found in natural products and pharmaceutical compounds (Figure 1) [1][2][3], which exhibit a wide range of biological and pharmaceutical activities [4]. For example, mersicarpine has been found to inhibit protein translation and induce apoptosis [5] and vinburnine acts as a vasodilator for the treatment of cerebrovascular insufficiency [6,7].…”

“…Eburnamonine or vincamone (empirical forrnula C l9 H22N02) is structurally similar to vincamine, vincanol and vinpocetine. In various species and under various hypoxie conditions Eburnamonine exerts an antihypoxic activity (Linnee et al, 1977, Villa et al, 1978. Pharrnacological studies have shown that Eburnamonine improves cerebral circulation and cerebral metabolism more effectively and for a longer time than vincamine (Laeroix et al, 1979;Linnee et al, 1980).…”
