Effect of domestic compatabilizer on the performance of polypropylene-sawdust composites

Abstract: Greater concern for environmental safety and fuel economy has increased interest in the use of renewable resources for development of new materials. Wood-plastic composites, made of recycled plastic and wood wastes, are very attractive in this respect, making this one of the most dynamic areas of new developments in the plastics industry in the past decade. This paper presents the preparation and characterization of polypropylene-sawdust composites by compression molding using maleated polypropylene (MAPP) pro… Show more

“…Sawdust decreases the composites weight, the other important benefit is money saving from commodity point of view. On the other hand, sawdust burning may lead to catastrophic environment and thus represent a serious environmental issue (Santos et al , 2015; George et al , 2001; Najafi et al , 2006).…”

“…Using of several additives and various formulation and/or processing attempts have been extensively studied so far to increase interfacial adhesion between components of WPCs. 315 Maleic anhydride grafted polyolefins (PE-g-MA, PP-g-MA, etc.) appear to be the most effective compatibilizers or coupling agents for WPCs.…”

“…This material was dried at 60 C for 22 h. Composites containing 5, 10 and 20 wt. % PWSDP were prepared according to preparation method described by Santos et al 22 The polypropylene (PP), of Braskem, H 503 brand having density value of 905kg.m, flexural strength of 1300 MPa, tensile strength of 35 MPa and % elongation of 11 23 was used in this study.…”
