Effect of Different Vacuum Pressure on the Tensile Properties of Sugar Palm Frond Fibre Reinforced Polyester Composites

Abstract: Sugar palm frond fibre has a potential to be as reinforcement in natural fibres reinforced polyester composites. This paper investigates the tensile properties of sugar palm frond fibre reinforced polyester composites. The sugar palm frond fibres were mixed with polyester composites at the 5 % fibre volume fraction with three different vacuum pressure of 5, 10 and 15 psi. The composites panels were fabricated using a vacuum bagging techniques. The tensile test was carried out in accordance to ASTM D638 respect… Show more

“…The optimum percentage of rice husk in polyester resin to obtain the highest tensile properties was found at 5 vol. % but there was no effect of addition more than 5 vol.% to the tensile properties of composites 24 . The effect of fiber treatment on the mechanical properties of unidirectional sisal-reinforced epoxy composites has been studied.…”

“…are incorporated into the polyester matrix to make composites. Unsaturated polyesters are extremely versatile in properties and applications and have been popular thermoset used as polymer matrix in composites [5]. Furthermore, polyester composite is relatively easy to prepare based on the existing technology with a balanced set of properties as required.…”
