Effect of different spacing and mulching on growth and yield of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) in Chitwan, Nepal

Abstract: Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) is one of the most important vegetable crop of Nepal. Its yield and growth parameters are affected by different cultural practices. This study was conducted at Olericulture Farm of Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal during April 29 to July 9 of 2018. The field experiment was carried out in split plot design using three replications. The treatments consisted of three intra row spacing (30, 45 and 60 cm) and four different mulching materials (Silver plast… Show more

“…Black mulch prevent the evaporation and mainain the soil temperature and control the weed which enhance the better crop growth and crop yield. Jha et al (2018) recorded higher yield in plastic mulch over control treatment. No mulch treatment recorded lowest yield which was 41.27% less than black plastic mulch.…”

“…The increase in growth parameter was attributed to enough soil moisture close to root region and minimized evaporation loss due to mulching. The extended retention of moisture and availability of moisture additionally main to higher uptake of nutrient for proper boom and development of plant life, ensuing higher canopy of plant located that Silver plastic mulch more advantageous the growth parameters like cover period, plant peak, leaf variety, leaf length, girth and yield of okra (Jha et al, 2018).…”
