Effect of Different Regional Climates on Persimmon Quality

Abstract: Persimmon (Diospyros kaki) is grown in wide climate conditions, which may affect fruit biochemical characteristics such as vitamins, soluble solids and antioxidants. Therefore, the aim of this research is to evaluate the biochemical responses of fruit to these climate variables. For this purpose 5 districts of Kashan, Shahrud, Yazd, Kiasar and Sari were chosen to collect fruits. On November 2012, based on a complete block design ripen fruits were collected and quality factors were measured. The results of this… Show more

“…In a recent study by Dinis et al (2011) it was clearly observed that when C. sativa was grown at different elevations, smaller fruits were noticed at higher altitudes. Similar results were also reported by Soqanloo (2015), when biochemical characteristics (vitamin, sugars, antioxidants, acids) of persimmon fruits were significantly affected by different elevations.…”

“…Fruit composition and morphological characteristics are very much dependant on two main factors, genetics and environment (Soqanloo, 2015). It is reported in many studies that particular varieties are composed of certain chemical substances due to their genetic makeup which might vary from species to species (Nascimento et al, 2017).…”

“…The critical period for the growth and ripening of citrus fruits is from July to December. During this period, the change in DTR is the main climatic factor affecting the quality content of fruits [58,59]. Admittedly, a higher day temperature is preferred for the accumulation of sugar and degradation of organic acids in the fruit-ripening process, and a lower night temperature favours the same under suitable fruit growth conditions [60,61].…”

“…Besides plant breeding to obtain new cultivars, a germplasm bank with cultivars from different geographical areas has been created as part of this program to evaluate their response under our Mediterranean agroclimatic conditions. It has been reported that the climate differences between persimmongrowing regions can lead to a wider variation in persimmon fruit maturity and quality at harvest (Soqanloo, 2015;Zanamwe, 2018).…”
