Effect of different mixing methods on the bacterial microleakage of white Portland cement and white Mineral Trioxide Aggregate

Abstract: Background. of this study was to investigate the effect of different mixing methods (ultrasonic, amalgamator, and conventional) on the bacterial microleakage of white Portland cement (WPC) and white MTA (Tooth-colored Formula, Dentsply, Tulsa Dental, Tulsa, OK). Methods. A hundred human single-rooted permanent teeth were decoronated to obtain 14 mm of root length in all the samples. The root canals were cleaned, shaped and obturated. Three millimeters of each root apex were cut off and randomly divided into 6… Show more

“…Aloe vera has a strong antibacterial effect in comparison to calcium hydroxide as an antioxidant and reduces free radical production. On the contrary, its cytotoxicity is lower than calcium hydroxide [ 11 , 15 , 17 , 34 , 38 ]. This herb can grow in wild and wide ranges of environments.…”

“…Although the route of microbial leakage has not been traced histologically, which represents a methodological limitation [24]. The utility of the double-chamber leakage apparatus was confirmed in previous investigations [24,39,40].…”

“…In the present study, a 5mm-thick apical barrier, created using passive ultrasonic vibration, was performed. It has been demonstrated that these procedures improved the sealing ability of MTA [18,39,42,43]. Previous study showed that ultrasonically placed MTA apical barriers [18] showed that ultrasonically placed MTA apical barriers (5 mm) leaked in 20% and 60% of the samples after 60 and 180 days, respectively.…”

“…Microbial leakage is one of the main reasons of endodontic failure, especially in immature necrotic teeth that have undergone apexification treatment. [ 1 2 ] The most important factors contributing to apical microbial leakage are the obturation technique used, physical and chemical properties of filling material, presence/absence of smear layer, and coronal sealing ability of the restoration. [ 3 4 ] The microbial leakage preventive property of apical plug material is an important factor in the treatment of necrotic immature teeth.…”
