“…AA normally accumulates in ovarian tissue during maturation and prior to egg extrusion in crustaceans (Guary et al 1975;Alva et al 1993a;Sangha et al 2000), although there are some exceptions to this pattern (Wouters et al 2001).…”

“…Many previous studies have demonstrated that vitamin C or ascorbic acid (AsA) is an essential nutrient for fish and crustaceans, including penaeid shrimp, because they lack the enzyme, l ‐gulunolactone oxidase, which is necessary for the last step of AsA biosynthesis (Dabrowski 1990; Webster & Lim 2002). Ascorbic acid‐supplemented diets improve survival, body weight gain (WG), feed efficiency ratio, gonadal maturation and stress resistance in penaeid shrimp (Guary, Kanazawa, Tanaka & Ceccaldi 1976; Shigueno & Itoh 1988; Alava, Kanazawa, Teshima & Koshio 1993; He & Lawrence 1993; Hsu & Shiau 1997; Lee & Shiau 2002). Shrimp fed diets without AsA supplementation are weak and fragile, with reduced moult frequency or incomplete moulting because of impaired collagen synthesis.…”

“…Contposition of the basal diet used in the experiment. ini mendekati hasil yang ditemui olehAlava et al (1993) terhadap udang Penaeus japonicu.s.Induk udang betina yang diberi pakan dengan suplementasi vitamin A, E dan C bentuk askorbil fosfat magnesium masing-masing dosis 15, 100, 100 mg/100 g pakan mencapai IGS 3,8% pada akhir penelitian, namun pada perlakuan tanpa disuplementasi vitamin C IGS mencapai hanya 2,0%. Hasil percobaan…”
