Effect of dexmedetomidine anesthesia on respiratory function in pediatric patients undergoing retinoblastoma resection

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine (Dex) on the respiratory function during anesthesia induction in pediatric patients undergoing retinoblastoma (RB) resection. A total of 87 pediatric patients who underwent RB resection in Yidu Central Hospital of Weifang were recruited into this study. General anesthesia was first induced for all patients, of which 45 were randomly assigned to the experimental group and received Dex through an intravenous infusion pump to maintain general … Show more

“…The central analgesic impact of dexmedetomidine is only substantial when bupivacaine is added, disputing the central analgesic effect of dexmedetomidine as a cause for prolonging sensory block duration. Dexmedetomidine alone does not cause considerable sensory or motor block, which is similar to what has been reported with clonidine in laboratory and clinical studies [ 14 ].…”

“…It can also effectively fight inflammation and protect the immune function of the body [4]. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective α2 adrenergic receptor agonist that has good analgesic, sedative, and antianxiety effects; positive effects on postoperative emotional state adjustment and pain management of patients; a small impact on patients' neurological function; and certain anti-inflammatory effects [5,6].…”

Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective α 2 adrenergic receptor agonist that has good analgesic, sedative, and antianxiety effects; positive effects on postoperative emotional state adjustment and pain management of patients; a small impact on patients' neurological function; and certain anti-inflammatory effects [ 5 , 6 ]. Through clinical trials, this study further explored the efficacy of the right stent microphone combined with propofol in anesthesia, postoperative analgesia, inflammatory response, and cellular immune function in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer.…”
