Effect of Crop Establishment Method and Time of Nitrogen Application on the Productivity of Boro Rice in Highland Ecosystem

Abstract: An experiment was conducted to study the effect of crop establishment methods and time of nitrogen application in Boro rice at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) experimental farm, Gazipur during Boro season . Five establishment methods viz; line sowing in zero tilled, broadcasting in zero tilled, line sowing in tilled, broadcasting in tilled wet soil and transplanting method and three times of nitrogen application viz; three splits of nitrogen application at 20, 40 and 85 DAS, four splits of nitrog… Show more

“…The highest variable cost was incurred by the transplanting method (59294.00 BDT ha −1 ) while the lowest variable cost was incurred by the direct seeding of dry seed method (46794.00 BDT ha −1 ). This was similar to the results of Kabir et al, [16] who found lowest variable cost in direct seeded rice due to the omission of seedling raising, uprooting and transplanting.…”

“…[7] reported that the increased plant spacing considerably resulted in vigorous plant growth and caused a significant increase in number of filled kernels per panicle in rice. In contrast to the results obtained [29] observed highest number of filled grains spike -1 (31.05) from the seed rate of 140 kg ha -1 and the lowest (26.55) from the seed rate of 100 kg ha 1 . This result in contrast with [33] was obtained there was no significance of difference between 20, 25and 30 cm.…”
