“…The effect of the inclusion of quebracho in the concentrate during the fattening period on carcass weights varies between studies. In agreement with the present results, Dawson et al 19 reported similar carcass characteristics when 0, 80 or 100 g of quebracho per kilogram fresh matter was included in the diet of lambs. However, several studies reported a lower carcass weight when forages with different CT contents were included, probably as a consequence of a reduction I the BW at slaughter.…”

“…The effect of the inclusion of CTs in the concentrate on weight gains depends on both its dose and the CP content of the diet . The inclusion of quebracho in the concentrate fed to weaned grazing lambs increased weight gains when they were fed a concentrate low in CP, but not when they were fed a high CP concentrate . According to the aforementioned study, when CP was high, quebracho did not contribute to any further protein supply in the small intestine.…”

“…Finishing lambs on a high plane of nutrition has been reported to increase carcass fat content, especially in early-maturing hill breed types of low lean growth potential (Carson et al, 2001). In agreement with Dawson et al (2011), there was no effect of concentrate supplementation on fat score in grass-fed lambs, although there was evidence of a dietary effect on fat partitioning with lambs fed concentrate-based diets having a greater weight of abdominal fat and a greater depth of subcutaneous fat on the lateral surfaces of the loin and leg compared with those fed grass-based diets. However, it should be noted that fat levels were acceptable across all treatments and that the higher level of fat in concentrate-fed lambs is unlikely to influence consumer choice when purchasing lamb.…”

“…Using tannin containing feeds in animal ration may improve the nutrient utilization and productivity of ruminants. In an experiment, inclusion of red quebracho (Schinopsis quebracho-Colorado (Schlecht) and Barkley & T. Meyer) tannin in the diet increased the live weight gain (LWG) of lambs in comparison to control group (Dawson et al, 2010). To our best knowledge, no information is available on the effect of RW and its tannins on performance of growing lambs and rumen fermentation parameters.…”
