Background: Poorly managed preoperative anxiety and pain were reported to slow the postoperative recovery of breast cancer patients. Thus, proactive management using non-pharmacological interventions becomes essential for decreasing opioid or anxiolytics consumption, anxiety level, pain intensity, postoperative complications and improving patients' haemodynamics and satisfaction with care.Purpose: To identify, analyse and synthesise the effects of non-pharmacological interventions on preoperative anxiety and acute postoperative pain in women undergoing breast cancer surgery.Method: For this systematic review, 12 databases including Ovid Nursing, PsycInfo, British Nursing Index, CINAHL, Cochrane Library were searched to identify relevant studies. A total of 6,012 articles were identified from the search, six RCTs and one quasi-experimental study that met the inclusion criteria were included after eligibility screening. Narrative synthesis was used to analyse data extracted from the included articles. The review adhered to the PRISMA guideline.Results: Twelve outcomes were measured in the included studies, including preoperative anxiety, and acute postoperative pain. Music, massage, aromatherapy and acupuncture were the interventions delivered. Music had a small-to-large effect size and aromatherapy had a small effect size on reducing preoperative anxiety. Also, music had a large effect size whilst acupuncture had a medium effect size on minimising postoperative pain in women undergoing breast cancer surgery. Conclusion:Music, aromatherapy and acupuncture appeared to be effective for reducing preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain in women undergoing breast cancer surgery. However, the small number of studies available for each intervention prevents conclusive statements about which the most effective method. Implication for clinical practice:A nursing care pathway that standardises the use of non-pharmacological interventions for the management of both preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain in breast cancer surgery patients should be developed.

To study the influence of comprehensive nursing on self-care ability and psychological state of sufferers with coronary heart disease (CHD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). From August 2017 to June 2019, 79 patients who underwent coronary intervention in the Department of Cardiology medical of our hospital were selected as the research object. 34 subjects who received routine basic nursing were included in the control group (CG). 45 cases in the observation group (OG) received comprehensive nursing intervention based on routine nursing. The self-care ability, quality of life and psychological state of patients were compared in both groups before and after nursing intervention. The compliance behavior and nursing satisfaction of patients were compared in both groups. After the nursing, the ESCA and life quality scores in both groups were obviously ameliorated compared with those before the nursing care, and the OG was higher than the CG (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the blood pressure, blood lipid, SAS score and SDS score of sufferers were significantly declined in both groups, and the SAS and SDS scores of sufferers in OG were obviously lower than those in CG (p < 0.05). Comprehensive nursing intervention can effectually ameliorate the self-care ability and life quality in sufferers with CHD after PCI, which can be applied and popularized in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Sinus floor elevation and immediate dental implantation are commonly performed to treat dentition defects in elderly patients. Targeted cognitive behavioral interventions (CBI) during the perioperative period can reduce pain and anxiety as well as improve sleep quality. This can lead to improvements in patient cooperation during follow-up treatment and enhance the overall efficacy of the surgery. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to investigate the impact of a cognitive behavioral intervention method on perioperative pain, anxiety, and sleep quality in elderly patients undergoing sinus floor elevation and immediate dental implantation. METHODS: Forty patients who required the treatment at the Stomatology Clinic in our hospital between December 2018 and December 2022 were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (n= 20), which received conventional treatment and care during the perioperative period, and an intervention group (n= 20), which received comprehensive behavioral intervention in addition to the conventional treatment and care during the perioperative period. The perioperative anxiety, pain, and sleep quality of the patients in both groups were evaluated. Anxiety was assessed using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and pain was measured using the visual analog scale (VAS). RESULTS: No statistically significant differences in SAS and PSQI were observed between the two groups at the initial visit; the values were significantly higher than those measured postoperatively. The SAS scores and PSQI of patients on days 0 and 7 post-surgery in the intervention group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION: Perioperative cognitive behavioral intervention can effectively improve anxiety, postoperative pain and sleep quality in elderly patients who have undergone sinus floor elevation and immediate dental implantation, thereby reducing the incidence of complications.
