Effect of compatibilizers on the miscibility of natural rubber/silicone rubber blends

Abstract: In this study, the blending system of natural rubber (NR) and silicone rubber (SR) at 70/30 ratio was investigated. Two kinds of graft polymers, polysiloxane‐g‐octane with different grafted ratios (polymers A, B, and C) and polysiloxane‐g‐(3,7‐dimethyl‐6‐octylene) (polymer D), were designed and synthesized to serve as compatibilizers. Dynamic mechanical analysis and scanning electron microscopy analyses showed that the compatibilizers improved the compatibility between NR and SR, and resulted in improved mecha… Show more

“…As for the highly saturated and inorganic backbone structure (-Si-O-) of silicone rubber (VMQ), it possesses excellent high-temperature and ageing resistance. So in this study, NR/VMQ composites 8,9 were prepared to improve anti-ageing and anti-fatigue properties of tire materials at the same time. [10][11][12] Constant strain/stress loading conditions are generally used in fatigue testing, 13 but different modulus of rubber would lead to different G input, further to inuence their fatigue properties.…”

“…It is suggest that compatibilizer efficiency is related with compatibizer content. At a low level of compatibilzer content, efficient compatibilzer reduces interfacial tension between the phases of PP/ABS blends and prevents dispersed droplets coalescence . As a result, the compatibility between PP and ABS was improved and the dispersed droplet size was reduced.…”

“…[ 7 ] Ozone and oxygen are two factors that are responsible for breaking polymer chains with a simultaneous reduction of molecular weight. [ 8–11 ] Selection of proper antioxidant and antiozonants can restrict such effects. Another common method to restrict the reversion of the high diene elastomers while curing with accelerated sulfur system is by fusing a certain chemical commonly known as anti‐reversion agent (ARA) into the formulation.…”
