Effect of Color Light Stimulation Using LED on Sleep Induction Time

Abstract: The effects of color are already being used widely. For this reason, in this study, an attempt was made to use such effects of color to examine the changes in sleep onset through the use of the preferred and nonpreferred color light stimulation. Color light stimulations were randomly presented to the subjects, and based on these colors, the changes in sleep onset were examined through the EEG. Also, to quantify the physiological changes that were caused by each color light stimulation, the changes in the HRV w… Show more

“…However, many researchers have reported that 25% of people feel that their sleep quality is not good (Soldatos et al, 2005; Lee M. et al, 2019). Since insufficient sleep is a common problem that leads to considerable health, social, and economic impacts (Hublin et al, 2001), a variety of methods have been developed to improve sleep quality (Besedovsky et al, 2017; Lee and Kim, 2017). Inducing sleep quickly is one way to improve the quality of sleep.…”

“…e stronger influence of GI on the LF/HF-Ratio could therefore be related to the higher influence on the heat balance [20,21]. e LF/HF-Ratio reflects the sympathovagal balance (with higher values indicating a dominance of the sympathetic nervous system) [61]. However, due to its complex nature, the LF/HF-Ratio should be interpreted with caution [62].…”

“…Muscle sympathetic nerve activity was found to increase after exposure. Sleep is an autonomic phenomenon, Katsanis et al, [7] reported that exposure to color light stimulation shortened time for sleep onset and influence heart rate variability in healthy humans. Specifically, color light preference was found to lower frequency/high-frequency ratio.…”
