“…The rainy season plays a crucial role in determining agricultural productivity and ultimately, the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers [ 68 ]. Recently, there have been growing concerns regarding the abundance, availability and effects of glyphosate on soil during raining season [ 69 ].…”

“…However, the decreasing trends observed in the number of pre-monsoon rainy days may hamper the emergence of yam tubers in the Sudanian zone. Adifon et al (2020) found that the rainfall delay in the pre-monsoon season is a temporal factors that affecting the yield of yams in the Sudanian regions of Benin. The significant increases of heavy and extreme rainfall are likely to negatively affect the growing season period with a very high risk of floods (Salack et al 2018).…”

“…Concerning the soil type, S1 (Ferruginous soils impoverished without concretions) seems to be the most sensitive to climate change followed by S2 (Ferralitic soils) and S3 (Raw mineral soils) . Still on the effects of climate variability on yam production, a study was conducted in the Nothern part of the Benin Republic by Adifon et al (2020). Their study shows that the agro-climatic stress index (ASI) and the annual rainfall are the main climatic factors which determine the yield of yam in the various growing areas in Benin.…”

“…He was also able, through a field survey among yam farmers, to gather their perceptions of yam production conditions and the challenges they face. The survey revealed that yam farmers are unanimous about the influence of the variability of climate parameters on the growth and production of yams (Adifon et al, 2020). The methodological approach he used is described in Table 9.…”
