“…In man, it was shown that cisapride, 8 and 20 mg IV, induces a significant increase in plasma concentrations of pancreatic polypeptide and cholecystokinin (CCK), which is almost completely abolished by atropine (MCCALLUM et al, 1988). A recent study on miniature pigs demonstrated the inhibitory effect of CCK-8 on antral fosc (WECHSUNG and HOUVENAGHEL, 1995).…”

“…Besides its 5-HT4 agonistic effect, cisapride also exerts a 5-HT, receptor blocking effect VALLEY, 1992;BIUEJER et al, 1995). I n the pig the effects of cisapride do not correspond to these of 5-HT, since it was recently demonstrated that IV infusion o f 5-HT, 4pg/kg/min for 2 h, was without significant influence on antral myoelectrical activity but strongly stimulated small intestinal myoelectrical activity in conscious conventional piglets (WECHSUNG and HOUVENAGHEL, 1993). This difference in response can be explained by the additional effect of 5-HT o n other 5-HT receptors in the gut, such as 5-HT, and 5-HT2 receptors.…”
