Effect Of Chronic Administration Of Hexane Extract Of Byrsonima Crassifolia Seed On Β-Cell And Pancreatic Oxidative Parameters In Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rat

Abstract: Background: In Mexican traditional medicine, the seeds of Byrsonima crassifolia have been used in the treatment of diabetes, rheumatism and for wound healing. The aim was to evaluate the effect of seeds of B. crassifolia on insulin release from the pancreatic beta cells in streptozotocininduced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods:In the present study, we evaluated the beneficial effect of seeds B. crassifolia streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetic rats. Insulin level; insulin sensitivity index, insulin conten… Show more

“…All plant extracts are from plants known as traditional medicinal plants: BYCRBA ( Byrsonima crassifolia ) was shown to act as an antidepressant with additional anti-inflammatory activity and gastro-protective effects [ 15 , 16 ]. The seed of BYCRBA affects diabetes as it decreases blood glucose [ 17 ]. Interestingly, the ethyl acetate of roots from BYCRBA showed antimicrobial effect against Klebsiella pneumoniae , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Salmonella typhi , Shigella flexnari , S. aureus , S. epidermis , Streptococcus pneumoniae and Micrococcus luteus [ 18 ].…”

“…Byrsonima crassifolia seed showed antidiabetics and wound healing properties. It is evaluated in STZ-induce type-1 diabetic rats and parameters were assayed like insulin level in pancreas, nitric oxide contents and oxidative stress [23].…”

“…Type I diabetes was induced in overnight fasted male rat groups (DC, P, DA1, DA2 and DA3) by a single intraperitoneal injection of STZ, at a dose of 60mg/kg. STZ was purchased from Sigma Corporation and before using was immediately dissolved in citrate buffer (pH = 4.5) (27). All of the test animals were diabetic and showed diabetic symptoms by polydipsia, polyuria, and polyphagia.…”
