| Feedstuffs and high temperature are the two major constraints for tropical poultry. The Separate Energetic Feeding (SEF) was suggested as an alternative to limit the harmful effects of the high temperature on the productivity of fowls under hot climate. To check this assumption, one hundred 8 -week-old chicks Guinea fowls were distributed in two groups. Each group was divided into two replicates of 25 birds each. The first group (control; n=50) received a conventional food containing 2953. 75 Kcal/kg metabolizable energy and 17. 31% crude protein. The second group (treatment group; n= 50) was separately fed with two fractions: (1) caloric feeding with 2141.75 Kcal/kg metabolizable energy and 4. 24% of crude protein and (2) crude proteins and mineral stuffs fraction containing 812 Kcal/kg metabolizable energy and 13.07% crude protein. Feed and water were offered ad libitum. The mean average live weight was significantly higher (P<0. 05) in guinea fowls fed with fractioned meals. Birds receiving a SEF reached the commercial body weight (BW) one week earlier than the control group (P<0. 05). The results show that the voluntary consumption of the energy fraction increased with age of birds in both groups but was moderately higher (P<0. 05) in the treated group. This study highlighted that SEF is an alternative to limit the harmful effect of heat stress in tropical climate and may be useful for poultry production in developing countries where formulated feeds and premixes are limited.

The main objective of the present study was to investigate the association of small intestine measurements with body weight in broilers. Sixty five weeks old unsex broiler chicks (CP 707) were used. All birds were leg-banded and alloted to 60 cage units and than were fasted for 10 hours but water given. All birds were weighed individually and then sacrificed by neck vein bleeding. Small intestine was dissected individually to determine length and wide. All data were subjected to statistical analysis: correlation and simple linear regression, analysis of variance and ttest. The length of small intestine, duodenum, and jejunum/ileum were each strongly correlated with body weight: r = 0,88; P < 0,01; r = 0,71; P < 0,01; and r = 0,80, P < 0,01 respectively. The wide of duodenum and jejunum/ileum were each closedly correlated with body weight: r = 0,90; P < 0,01; and r = 0,86; P < 0,01 respectively. Results of study indicated that there were strong association between small intestine measurements and body weight in broilers.Key words: broiler, body weight, small intestine, association analysis Usus halus terdiri dari tiga segmen, yaitu duodenum, jejunum, dan ileum, sebagai organ pencernaan dan penyerapan yang primer (Ensminger, 1980). yang bervariasi kemampuannya.Kemampuan pencernaan dan penyerapan zat-zat makanan dapat dipengaruhi oleh luas permukaan epithel usus, jumlah lipatanlipatannya, dan banyaknya villi dan mikrovilli yang memperluas bidang penyerapan (Austic dan Nesheim, 1990). dan dipengaruhi juga oleh tinggi dan luas permukaan villi, duodenum, jejunum, dan ileum (Sugito, et al., 2007). Selanjutnya, luas penampang usus halus dapat juga berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pencernaan dan penyerapan zatzat makanan. Luas penampang usus halus dipengaruhi oleh panjang dan lebarnya. Selain itu, pertambahan berat dan panjang usus halus, disertai juga oleh pertambahan besar rongga di dalam usus halus, dan pertambahan luas permukaan usus halus (Yao, et al., 2006).Usus halus broiler yang bertubuh berat adalah lebih panjang dan lebih luas bidang absorpsinya dibanding dengan usus halus unggas yang bertubuh lebih ringan (Yamauchi, et al., 1991).
