Effect of Chitosan Supplementation in Commercial Feed For Specific Growth Rate and Protein Retention of Litopenaeus vannamei

Abstract: Litopenaeus vannamei is a leading commodity whose economic value. Targets of vannamei’s production increasing every year. One of important factor in the success of shrimp farming is feed. Research about feed fish directed to the creation of feed fish whose economical and safe for the environment, therefore is required an efforts to provide alternative feed through feed supplement. One of the material that can be supplemented in feed is chitosan. Chitosan can increase the specific growth rate and protein retent… Show more

“…Junianto et al (2021) stated that the cross-linking that occurs between nanochitosan and protease involves an amine group (-NH2) in nanochitosan with a hydroxyl group (-OH) in protease. Ekaputri et al (2018) stated that nanochitosan cross-links can increase the catalytic activity of protease enzymes that help in protein digestion. The activity of this enzyme has no potential to interfere with protein digestion in the ventriculus, and the results of protein digestion will be used to support egg production, so that the weight of the ventriculus does not change significantly.…”

“…The specific growth rate is influenced by the culture medium's feed quality and water quality. One of the factors that affect the growth rate is if there is an excess input of energy and amino acids (protein) contained in the feed (Ekaputri et al, 2018) [6] . The higher the energy contained in the feed, the greater the possibility of a specific growth rate.…”

“…In shrimp feed, chitosan was also added with a composition of 25 grams of chitosan mixed with 25 kg of feed. According to Ekaputri et al (2018) [23] the addition of chitosan in feed aims to stimulate immune function, improve digestion and absorption of nutrients. Thus, it can increase the growth rate.…”
