Abstract:The presence of Ca2+ (concentration, ca. 0.4 mM) in the growth medium causes cells of Desulfovibrio vulgaris (Hildenborough) to aggregate, leading to a decrease in plating efficiency. When the Ca2+ concentration in the medium was reduced 20-fold, cell aggregation did not occur and the plating efficiency increased from an initial value of 34% to a final value of 56%.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
