Indigenous chickens are quite popular in Family Poultry Production System (FPPS) in Nepal, but are constrained with their low productive performance. The present study evaluated the productive and reproductive performance of Sakini chicken in different filial generations and sexes. In addition, research also aimed at understanding the effect of generations on above performances. Initially, base populations (G-0) of Sakini were maintained by collecting eight weeks old birds from different agro-ecologial zones of Nepal. Performance of the birds of G-0 was evaluated based on weekly body weight (12-24 weeks), laying performance, fertility, hatchability, hatch weight and survivability. Selected birds of base population (G-0) were used to produce first (G-1), second (G-2) and third (G-3) generations through selective breeding in each generation. Similarly, body weights at hatching, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 week and 24 weeks were significantly (p<0.001) improved from G0 to G3 and were also significantly (p<0.001) differ for sex (males were always heavier than females). Likewise, there was significant (p<0.05) improvement in egg production (per hen per year), age at first lay (days), body weight at sexual maturity, egg number and egg weight at 90 days of laying in progressive generations. Fertility, hatchability and survivability significantly (p<0.05) improved in selected generations in comparison to base population, whereas, no significant difference was obtained within the different selected population. Thus, indigenous Sakini chicken under this experiment performed better with respect to survivability, fertility and hatchability in later generations that provides ample scope of advancing selective breeding activities within the indigenous population in order to bring significant improvement in the overall productive performance of Sakini chicken in Nepal. Upgrading of indigenous chicken with exotic breed is an important way to improve their productivity for the traits of economic interest. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the productivity, profitability and adaptability of two up-graded dwarf chicken populations under smallholder farmers’ condition. A total of 72 birds of third generation (F3) of Dwarf-Fayoumi (IDC♂ × Fay♀) and Dwarf-Leghorn (IDC♂ × WLH♀) at 12 weeks of age were distributed to 12 farmers nearby three villages (Kewatkhali, Boyra, Sutiakhali) of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Birds were reared at farmers’ house for a period of 16 weeks with same feeding and management practices. Farmers were grouped into two (6 farmers in each group) for allocating IDC♂ × Fay♀ and IDC♂ × WLH♀ upgraded genotypes. Each farmer was given six birds of same genotype. The study revealed that IDC♂× Fay♀ pullets showed earlier sexual maturity (147.50±0.76 days) and lower feed intake (74.55±0.23 g/bird/day) and thus had a better FCR (2.98±0.02) during the experimental period. The corresponding values were found 169.83±1.35 days, 76.07±0.19 g/bird/day and 3.51±0.02, in IDC♂ × WLH♀ genotype. Moreover, among the production traits considered egg mass, hen day egg production, performance efficiency index and egg feed price ratio were found higher among the IDC♂× Fay♀ pullets as 25.07±0.20 g/bird/day, 37.48±0.43%, 21.22±0.95, and 1.175±0.015, respectively. The survivability of IDC♂ × Fay♀ and IDC♂ × WLH♀ upgraded genotypes were 94.4 and 77.7%, respectively during the experimental period. Therefore, it can be concluded that the IDC♂ × Fay♀ pullets were found more productive, profitable and had better adaptability than IDC♂ × WLH♀ pullets under smallholder farmers’ management. Chicken is an important Livestock Species in Nepal which plays a significant role and provides protein through eggs and meat. The present study evaluates production and reproduction performances of Indigenous Naked neck Chicken through Selective Breeding. The appropriate and advanced trait can be selected by observing different generations of chickens. Initially, the base population (G-0) of birds was maintained in many research works by collecting birds from agroecological zones of Nepal. Laying performance, fertility, hatchability, and hatch weight were evaluated. The three generations of Naked neck chicken need further observations. The overall mean weight of almost all indigenous chicks was on increasing trend from the base population (G0) to the third generation (G3). In comparison within three generations found the third generation with better fertility and hatchability. Selection breeding has proven useful for the improvement of production and reproduction performances. This proves that selection breeding aid in the improvement of the indigenous breed and maintain good quality traits in the future.
