Effect of Blepharis maderaspatensis L. Roth. extracts on serum lipids in Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet induced hyperlipidemia in rats

Abstract: The present study evaluates anti-hyperlipidaemic and anti-atherogenic activities in Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet induced hyperlipidemia in rat models. Chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of whole plant of Blepharis maderaspatensis were evaluated for their anti-hyperlipidaemic and anti-atherogenic activities using Triton WR-1339 induced hyperlipidaemic rats (acute study) and high cholesterol diet induced (chronic study) experimental models. Hyperlipideamia was developed by intraperitonial… Show more

“…Thus, the P. curatellifolia seed could protect against possible cardiovascular disease risks associated with dyslipidemia, thereby highlighting its potential therapeutic use in the management of abnormalities in lipid metabolism. Atherogenic risk predictor indices were suggested for use in the clinical setting to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease beyond routine lipid profile assessment . The positive relationship between LDL‐c, CRI and ARI was clearly observed in the present study (Fig.…”

“…Plasma lipid profiles (TC, TG, LDL‐c, and HDL cholesterol (HDL‐c)) were estimated using assay kits supplied by Randox Laboratories, following the manufacturer's instructions. LDL‐c/HDL‐c ratio was determined and atherogenic risk index (ARI) and coronary risk index (CRI) were calculated as follows: ARI = (TC–HDL‐c)/HDL‐c and CRI = TC (mg/dL)/HDL‐c .…”

“…18 Stress oxidative was sign by MDA level, so MDA level used by the biology mark or measure of oxidative stress in the body. 19 It appropriate with the increased of infiltration lipid in the aorta which shows oxidative damage in lipid (LDL oxidation to LDLox). 20 The aorta histopathology or rat (Rattus norvegicus) on figure 1.A (negative group) showed normal conditions in tunica intima.…”

“…It is well known that diet plays an important role in the control of cholesterol homeostasis. The consumption of cholesterol-enriched diet is regarded as an important factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases as it leads to the development of hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and abnormal lipid oxidation/metabolism [29,30]. The hypolipidemic activity of the groups taken extracts or powder fractions of D. mespiliformis was found to be slightly less efficacious than that of the standard drug but compared to the negative control group, their total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-C and VLDL-C are significantly low and their HDL-c higher.…”
