Effect of antibacterial nanocomposite film on the preservation of cheese

Abstract: High density polyethylene (HDPE) and nano-ZnO were used to prepare nano-ZnO/HDPE composite film with a nano-ZnO content of 0.5wt%. The morphology, mechanical, barrier and antibacterial properties, as well as the preservation to cheese of the films were studied. The results showed that the ZnO nanoparticles had a good dispersion in HDPE matrix so that the improvement of the mechanical, barrier and antibacterial performances of the film was achieved after the addition of nano-ZnO to HDPE. In comparison to cheese… Show more

“…Owing to antibiotic overuse in the medical, fishery, and livestock and poultry breeding industry, several antibioticresistant bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (MDRSP), and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) have emerged, posing new challenges to food hygiene and safety and efficacy of medicines (Gomes et al, 2022;Kim & Ahn, 2022;Le et al, 2022). To overcome the challenges posed by the increasing emergence of drug-resistant bacteria and their strong environmental adaptability, researchers are using a combination of antibiotics to treat bacterial infections (Beardmore et al, 2017;Li et al, 2022b;Pabon et al, 2022). In recent years, many researchers have focused on identifying natural antibacterial substances.…”

“…The effectiveness of antimicrobial packaging formulations has been proven on milk agar as a model system and also on real dairy foods. Antimicrobial films of conventional plastics (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene) incorporating metallic nanoparticles such as silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) have been described as effective to control microbial growth in cheeses [ 83 , 84 , 85 ]. However, increased attention has been devoted to the use of biopolymers for the development of edible and/or biodegradable food packaging for dairy applications as well [ 82 ].…”

“…Green and safety have been more and more people's attention (Li et al, 2021). As a result, many researchers have turned their attention to food packaging (Kavakebi et al, 2021;Li et al, 2022). The current rapid development of e-commerce has resulted in a need for improvements in the requirements of the package fresh food (Li et al, 2020).…”
