Objective: Antioxidants are very important for human health, and hence, external supplementation is recommended to protect cells from the deleterious effects of excessive reactive oxygen species conditions that are capable of causing direct damage to deoxyribonuclieic acid (DNA) which might lead to the cause of cancer. In our research work, we have aimed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of Terminalia chebula and pyrogallol to relate to its apoptotic nature as well as prove its non-toxicity.Methods: Investigations were carried out to determine the antioxidant activity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and lipid peroxidation inhibition assay of the ethanolic extract of T. chebula and pyrogallol. The apoptotic nature of tumor cells was determined by comet assay. To prove the non-toxicity of the extract as well as compound, the hemolysis assay was carried out.Results: The results of our study established the antioxidant potential of the plant which may serve as additional evidence for the antiproliferative activity of the plant. It is considered safe for human use.Conclusion: Plant-based traditional medicine system continues to play an essential role in health care. The ethanolic extract of T. chebula and pyrogallol possesses antioxidant and anticancer properties.

BackgroundThe aim of the present study was to analyse the effect of climate change on phytochemicals, total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant potential of methanolic extracts of Aloe vera collected from different climatic zones of the India.MethodsCrude methanolic extracts of A. vera from the different states of India were screened for presence of various phytochemicals, total phenolic content and in vitro antioxidant activity. Total phenolic content was tested by Folin–Ciocalteau reagent based assay whilst DPPH free radical scavenging assay, metal chelating assay, hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay, reducing power assay and β carotene-linoleic assay were used to assess the antioxidant potential of A. vera methanolic leaf extracts.ResultsAlkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenes were the main phytochemicals presents in all accessions. A significant positive correlation was found between TPC and antioxidant activity of different accessions. Extracts of highland and semi-arid zones possessed maximum antioxidant potential. Accessions from tropical zones showed the least antioxidant activity in all assays.ConclusionsIt could be concluded that different agro-climatic conditions have effects on the phytochemicals, total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant potential of the A. vera plant. The results reveal that A. vera can be a potential source of novel natural antioxidant compounds.

The main objectives of this work are to optimize the extraction parameters, to test the antioxidant activity of Aloe Vera extract and to study the impact of this extract on deteriorating molds of Algerian variety of wheat (CIRTA). The extraction was optimized by central composite design. Determination of the polyphenols, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins was performed by using colorimetric assays. Identification and quantification of phenolic compounds were performed by RP-HPLC-UV method. The antioxidant activity was tested by three methods: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,20-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), and CUPRAC (Cupric reducing antioxidant capacity), the antifungal activity of Aloe Vera extract on isolated strains from durum wheat were tested by dilution in a solid medium method. The optimum of total phenolic got was1,044 x 104 µg GAE/g of dry extract. The extract is rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins. The analysis of phenolic compounds of Aloe Vera by RP-HPLC-UV revealed seven phenolic compounds. Strong antioxidant activity was obtained for Aloe Vera extract. Purification and microscopic study of isolated strains gave the possibility of identifying four strains: Alternaria spp1, Alternaria spp2, Penicillium spp, and Aspergillus spp. the antifungal potential of Aloe Veravaries according to the fungal genera and the concentrations of extract used.
