Biomass has emerged as a sustainable and renewable resource for dyestuff production. There is an increasing interest in biocolorants, especially in pigments from herbs. Nevertheless, hazardous metal mordants need to be used in conventional dyeing procedures to achieve the desired exhaustion rate and colorfastness. In this study, a novel dyeing strategy was presented for wool fibers with flavonoid pigments extracted from the bast of Apocynum venetum L. ( A. venetum ) based on in situ polymerization and covalent fixation of the dyes on the fiber. A new dyeing process was developed using NaOH as a dye fixative in the absence of mordants. The dyed fabric obtained by employing a relatively low NaOH concentration of 1.0 g/L in the dyebath, at a constant dyeing temperature of 100 °C, a dyeing time of 90 min, and a fixation time of 30 min, had a significant improvement in the color strength as well as the antibacterial activity against the assayed microorganisms, in addition to the good rubbing and washing colorfastness. Moreover, it was found that the wool dyed under optimum conditions suffered almost no damage from the tensile test results. This biodyeing strategy provided a new way for the sustainable wool dyeing process.

Lyocell ber is a low-carbon ber and has many remarkable characteristics, which makes it a good application prospect in the future. However, lyocell ber is prone to brillate under wet friction conditions. This work aimed to prepare lyocell fabric with low brillation tendency by an eco-friendly, low-temperature and e cient crosslinking method. Here, the N 1 , N 6 -bis(oxiran-2-ylmethyl)hexane-1,6-diamine crosslinked with lyocell fabric to achieve brination resistance. The dosage of crosslinking agent, pH values of crosslinking solution, temperature, and time on brillation tendency of lyocell fabrics were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy was used to observe brillation tendency, which showed that the lyocell fabric impregnated in 5% EH and pH = 10 solution at 40°C for 30 minutes had almost no micro brils. In addition, the results showed that the whiteness, mechanical property and dyeing performance of crosslinked lyocell fabric were retained, and the wear resistance was enhanced. This study demonstrated a potential and practical application of this crosslinking agent to diminish the brillation of lyocell fabrics.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate plasma treatment for Tencel microfibre fabrics for possible improvement in various functional properties. Design/methodology/approach The plasma treated and untreated fabrics were dyed using reactive dyes and evaluated for comfort properties such as wicking, water vapour permeability and air permeability. Findings The various comfort properties of plasma treated and an untreated Tencel microfibre fabric have been studied. The wicking results showed a significant reduction in wicking time for plasma treated fabrics compared to untreated fabrics. The test results for water vapour permeability show no significant difference between plasma treated and untreated fabrics. The plasma treated samples show higher air permeability than untreated samples. In the wetting test, it is clearly seen that the plasma treated samples absorbed the water at a faster rate. Originality/value This research investigates plasma treatment for Tencel microfibre fabrics for possible improvement in various functional properties.
