Effect of Acute Physical Exercise on Executive Functions and Emotional Recognition: Analysis of Moderate to High Intensity in Young Adults

Abstract: Aguirre-Loaiza et al. Cognition, Emotion Recognition, and Exercise high-complexity tasks design that avoid a ceiling effect. This study is the first on reporting a positive effect of PE over the emotional contextual recognition. Important clinical and educational implications are presented implications which highlight the modulatory role of EF with moderate to high intensities.

“…Furthermore, it has been proposed that the relationship between acute exercise and cognitive performance follows an inverted U-shape [ 78 ]. However, it has to be acknowledged that this is not a universal finding since this relationship is influenced by several mediators (e.g., exercise intensity, time between exercise cessation, and cognitive testing) [ 79 , 80 ]. In the present study, we found that a 30-min bout of supervised moderate-intensity aerobic combined with resistance exercise program may have been effective in terms of improving cognitive interference inhibition in the obese female adults when they performed the Stroop task.…”
