Effect of a hybrid controller on ride comfort under random road excitation for a semi-active suspension system

Abstract: An adjustable damper is able to achieve effective anti-vibration performance by changing the damping coefficient. Therefore, this study experimentally evaluated the dynamic responses of the adjustable damper, which was subsequently incorporated into a quarter-car system. The current research employed a hybrid controller with a self-tuning fuzzy sliding-mode controller and a self-organizing learning mechanism under random road excitation (ISO 8608:1995) to verify the reliability. A single-input single-output f… Show more

“…The ISO road profiles were previously obtained and simulated in various studies (Múčka, 2017). In this study, the preferred ISO C grade road profile was obtained using the method describe by a previous study (Wang and Shih, 2012). The PSD values of the created road profiles are shown in Figure 6 (a), and the roughness values are given in Figure 6 (b) in meters.…”

“…Since the pavement excitation is random, it can be characterized by a spectral density function for better analysis and calculation. In ISO 8608 : 1995(E), the pavement power spectral density G q (n) is recommended to be expressed as follows [29]:…”

“…The applied appropriate electrical current on the damper is produced using the controller system. Consequently, proper dissipative force in the damper is established in the suspension system in order to damp the bounce vibrations [10][11][12]. Due to highly nonlinear behavior in the MR fluid damper, a nonlinear control strategy must be designed for elimination of unwanted vibrations in the chassis of automobile.…”
