Effect of a family history of psoriasis and age on comorbidities and quality of life in patients with moderate to severe psoriasis: Results from the ARIZONA study

“…A multicentre, cross‐sectional, observational study conducted at 68 dermatologic centres across Spain with 1022 adult patients analysed the impact of family history of psoriasis and age on comorbidity and quality of life in patients. A significantly higher Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI) appeared in younger age groups from 18 to 30 and 31 to 60 years with a DLQI of 5.1 ± 5.3 and 5.7 ± 6.5, respectively, compared to 3.8 ± 5.1 for the >60‐year group . Similar results were provided from a study on the effect of age on quality of life and long‐term outcomes in 114 individuals, which concluded that depression, social discrimination and a greater DLQI are more frequent in patients with early‐onset psoriasis …”

“…Although there are some studies2526 that family history is associated with early onset age, but it was difficult to find a study to explain a relationship between family history and disease severity. However, López-Estebaranz et al27 recently presented that the severity of psoriasis was not affected by the presence of a family history. Therefore, further studies are necessary to determine the association between family history and disease severity.…”

“…On the contrary, in our study having a familial history of psoriasis did not present a relationship with MDA. Similarly, a recent study showed that the severity of psoriasis and the proportion of patients with comorbidities were not affected by the presence of a family history of psoriasis [26]. …”
