“…Based on the geographical distribution from the river to reservoir, river-reservoir systems are commonly used to describe its hybrid environmental properties. Previous studies mainly focused on the dissolved organic matter, pesticides, phthalate and heavy metals [18][19][20][21]. However, very few published papers have reported the pollution characteristics of antibiotics in the river-reservoir system and the impact of reservoirs on the spatiotemporal distribution of riverine antibiotics.…”

“…Wang et al (2021) showed that the reservoir area had relatively higher terrestrial input and increased abundance of recalcitrant DOM, a consequence of water intrusion from the main stem of the stream caused by the construction and operation of the reservoir. Dam constructions increase the residence time of DOM in the river (Hong et al, 2012) and Sun et al (2017) noted that in slower flow areas of a mid-subtropical drinking water source reservoir, there was a higher content of certain DOM classes, supporting the notion that altered hydrodynamics can lead to variation in the DOM composition (Lynch et al, 2019). Non-anthropogenic organic debris dams in streams trap sediments and collect particulate organic matter, which again affects the concentration and composition of DOM in stream water (Bilby, 1981).…”

“…It is situated in the middle reaches of the Ao River, with the dam site located approximately 6 km upstream from Tangban Village in Lianjiang County. This is a third-level reservoir developed on the main stem of the Ao River, with primary functions including water supply, flood control, power generation, irrigation, and aquaculture [39]. The Shanzai Reservoir is the second water supply source for Fuzhou, serving the important task of supplying water to 1.6 million residents.…”
