Effect of 4-hexylresorcinol on Blood Coagulation and Healing of Injured Vessel in a Rat Model

Abstract: Purpose: For reconstruction of craniomaxillofacial defects caused by tumor, trauma, infection etc, free flap transplantation with microvascular surgery is a very useful method. Thrombus formation at the anastomosis site is the major cause of graft failure. 4-Hexylresorcinol (4-HR) is generally known as an antiseptic and antiparasitic agent. This study was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of 4-HR on blood coagulation in vitro. In addition, we investigated thrombus formation and endothelial repair of an… Show more

“…In in vitro studies, 4-HR demonstrated anti-thrombotic effects in microvascular anastomosis by delaying blood coagulation and inhibiting thrombus formation in vascular anastomosis [32]. Additionally, venous thrombosis is critical to the success of microvascular free-flap transfer and angioplasty [60,61].…”

“…It was recently employed as a component in silk-based biomaterials because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory activities [31]. In addition, in a microvascular anastomosis study, 4-HR was observed to yield anti-thrombotic effects such as blood coagulation delay and the inhibition of thrombus formation [32]. These effects may be related to its anti-inflammatory activity and the inhibition of transglutaminase-2 (TG-2) activity [33].…”
