Effect of 28-homobrassinolide on the performance of sensitive and resistant varieties of Vigna radiata

Abstract: A study was undertaken to examine the morpho-physiological alterations under different concentrations of 28-homobrassinolide (HBL) in two contrasting varieties of . Sterilized seeds of (T-44 and PDM-139) were inoculated with specific Rhizobium and allowed to grow and then 14 day old seedlings were exposed to different concentrations (0, 10, 10, or 10 M) of HBL and allowed to grow under natural environmental conditions. At the 15 and 21 day stage, plants were harvested to evaluate various parameters. Results cl… Show more

“…Increases in P N and E are positively related to the improvements expressed in g s , and these effects are explained by the positive impact of EBR on the enzymatic activities of CA (Hayat et al 2011) and RuBisCO (Yu et al 2004), which are key enzymes in the initial process of photosynthesis. The high CA activity increases the carboxylation state of RuBisCO in the Calvin cycle, consequently decreasing C i and inducing P N maximization (Hasan et al 2011;Alyemeni and Al-Quwaiz 2016). The increase in WUE is associated with the benefits promoted by EBR on P N .…”

“…Huang [69] showed that chilling stress caused a decrease in the chlorophyll content and Pn of the herbaceous plant Dendrobium officinale, resulting in a decrease in maximum photochemical efficiency, which was significantly reduced by exogenous salicylic acid (SA) treatment. Chilling stress can significantly reduce maize Pn, and BLs can increase Pn under stress conditions, by increasing the chlorophyll content [70]; Fariduddin [59] used 28-homobrassinolide (HBL) to treat cucumber seedlings and found that the Pn, gs and Tr were significantly increased under low temperature and normal temperature conditions. This study showed that the application of exogenous BL at different concentrations could significantly alleviate the inhibitory effect of chilling stress on the Pn of maize seedlings, increase the gs and Tr, and significantly reduce the Ci.…”
