The unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic has altered the way educational institutions operate, including Sampoerna University. Distanced learning has been commonly implemented since then. Not only for taught classes but laboratories or practical activities, such as Mechanics of Materials and Machine Shop have also been organized virtually for the undergraduate student in the mechanical engineering study program. Two stages of activities were carried out during the conduct, namely the (1) preparatory stage, where all the teaching materials in the form of videos were prepared, and (2) virtual lab. At the end of the semester, the participating students were asked to fill out a questionnaire to evaluate the entire practicum process. The results revealed that, according to students, teaching and learning activities performed in such a way are quite effective and satisfying. Regardless, based on the survey result, the students expect to have practical activities conducted in person to gain hands-on experience.

As a breakthrough from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, the Merdeka Learning Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program needs to measure the effectiveness of its implementation in increasing student competence based on industrial needs from the perspective of the three parties involved, namely students as learners, teaching staff/study programs, and partners/industry. This research was conducted at the University of Brawijaya. The research method uses a quantitative approach with a survey research type. The population of this study was students who were accepted into the MBKM program in the 2021/2022 academic year; as many as 694 students were active in the MSIB, IISMA, Semeru, Student Exchange, and Bangkit UB programs, while the population of Lecturers/ Study Programs totals 76 study programs, as well as partners/industry where 100 students take part in MSIB activities so that the total population is 870 respondents. Therefore, the sample for this study was obtained from 269 respondents using the Krejcie & Morgan formula. They are collecting data in this study using a questionnaire. The collected data were processed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel tools to display descriptive data about the perspectives of the three parties. The research results show that implementing the Independent Campus Learning Policy (MBKM) in Improving Student Competence Based on Industrial Needs at Brawijaya University is very good; this is evident from the results of a survey conducted on lecturers, students, and MBKM partners.

Learning is carried out offline starting April 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic began to subside and the statistics on COVID-19 cases in the city of Surabaya showed a low risk status. Learning that was originally done online was changed back to being done offline. Therefore, this study aims to identify differences in student learning outcomes in online and offline learning. This research is a quasi-experimental research with comparative method and quantitative approach. Research data was collected on macroeconomic theory courses in the even semester of the 2020/2021 academic year for online learning and the 2021/2022 school year for offline learning. The study population was 18 students who were randomly selected from the economic education study program in 2020 and 2021. Processing and analysis of research data used an independent sample T-test. Based on the results of the independent sample t-test, the Sig (two-sided) value is 0.356 > 0.05. These results indicate that there is no significant difference in the average student learning outcomes between online and offline learning. Students' online learning has an average learning outcome of 85.8889, higher than offline learning of 81.3333. Therefore, learning activities are more flexible during the pandemic and can be done online or offline.
