The modification of crab traps using biodegradable cotton rope, particularly on panel ropes and trap mouth ropes, aims to reduce the impact of ghost fishing. While the characteristics of cotton rope have been tested in the laboratory, they have not been directly tested in field fishing operations. This research aims to analyze cotton ropes' technical use and damage levels, compare crab catches in control and modified traps, and provide recommendations for fishermen to use modified traps. Experimental fishing involved operating 500 units of modified traps with cotton ropes and 500 units of control traps used by fishermen. The trap operations were conducted over 30 trips in Gebang Mekar, Cirebon Regency, and West Java, Indonesia. The results indicate that the modified and control traps use the same operating techniques and damage levels. The crab catches in the modified traps reached 1101 individuals with a total weight of 130.9 kg, not significantly different from the control traps, which reached 1110 individuals with a total weight of 129.8 kg (p > 0.05, T-test). Based on technical use, damage levels, and catch results, fishermen can use modified traps made from cotton rope as an effective alternative to prevent ghost fishing in crab trap fisheries.

The potential for capture fisheries production in Cirebon waters produces by-catch (bycatch) of 49% - 58.93% and for low-economic bycatch fish that are not absorbed in the market are not properly utilized. Based on these problems, it is necessary to utilize bycatch fish, especially fish that have a low economy around the waters of Cirebon Regency so that their utilization can be optimized in increasing added value and business income. The aim of this research is to identify the productive role of coastal women in the use of HTS fish in Cirebon Regency and to find out the percentage contribution of coastal women's income in improving the economy of fishing families. The research method uses a descriptive method with survey techniques and the sampling method uses a purposive sampling technique with the target object of this research being coastal women in Gebang, Mundu and Gunung Jati Districts, Cirebon Regency who use HTS fish as a productive activity. The potential of HTS fish in Cirebon Regency has been exploited by coastal women, not only selling it fresh but also using it in various processed products to increase added value. Coastal women in utilizing bycatch fish in Cirebon Regency have a productive role in the fisheries sub-sector with an average length of work of around 7-8 hours/day and an average age in the very productive category (31-50 years). Coastal women who use bycatch fish not only have a productive role but also have a potential role in increasing the contribution of family economic income, namely 50.09%.

The vast Indonesian sea provides abundant marine resources such as seafood. In addition to it, Indonesia also has an enormous coastline that can be utilized for tourism activities. Java sea in north Java Island has become a source of fishermen in Indonesia since 15 centuries, Gebang Mekar Village located in Cirebon, the northern part of Java Island has been stated by the local government to become a pioneered tourist destination for marine tour cultural activities and also for its culinary delicacy especially for seafood dishes. This study aims to analyze the potency of Gebang Mekar and its relations with Cirebon culture, and also having foodscape analysis finding how local the component of ingredients in its recipe. This study finds that Gebang Mekar has many kinds of seafood, especially for crabs, shrimps, squids, and seashells. And it suits with Cirebon local seafood recipe that has more than 16 seafood recipes. We trace the ingredient from the local recipe and analyze the foodscape and finds that most of the ingredients come from the local Cirebon and neighboring regions inside West Java. Only one ingredient (garlic) that to fulfill the quantity needs, should be imported from China. To support Gebang Mekar as a seafood culinary tourism destination there still plenty of tasks to do, such as local people empowerment by giving them some workshops in seafood restaurant management.
