To study the effect of winter cover crops on the vegetative, productive and qualitative behavior of "Cabernet Sauvignon" grapevines, an experiment was conducted in two wine harvests by sowing different species of winter cover crops and additional treatments with manual weeding and mechanical mowing in an experimental vineyard located at the Experimental Station of Epagri in Videira, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Plant attributes of the grapevine, such as number of rods and weight of pruned material and number of branches per plant. At the time of skin color change, petioles of recently matured leaves were collected for analysis of the levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn and B. Moments before harvest, 100 grape berries were collected randomly to determine the total soluble solids, titratable acidity and pH. At harvest, the number of bunches per branch, the number and mass of clusters per plant and the average mass of clusters per plot were determined. Fresh and dry matter yields of the cover crop and weed plants were also determined when coverage reached full bloom. The winter cover crops did not alter the yield and quality of "Cabernet Sauvignon" grapes and showed no differences from each other for the management of spontaneous vegetation by hand weeding or mechanical mowing. Rye and ryegrass are effective alternatives for weed control alternatives. The species of white and red clover present difficulty in initial establishment, producing a small amount of biomass.

O objetivo deste estudo foi contextualizar trabalhos publicados com manejo de solo e nutrição de plantas e seu efeito sobre a incidência, desenvolvimento do ciclo biológico e danos causados por insetos pragas em agroecossistemas. O manejo de solos e a nutrição de plantas são fatores importantes na determinação de ocorrência de pragas em agroecossistemas. Os solos com adoção de práticas ecológicas de manejo são apontados como fator importante na obtenção de plantas saudáveis. A nutrição de plantas de acordo com as recomendações regionais, aliado a adoção de adubação verde e orgânica, e plantio direto na palha, podem reduzir os surtos de insetos pragas. Dessa forma, as práticas de manejo de pragas devem considerar as intervenções realizadas no solo para reduzir o uso de agrotóxicos em sistema convencional, produção integrada e de insumos ecológicos em agricultura orgânica.

Viticulture is one of the main economic activities in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil, with emphasis on the American grape varieties, Vitis labrusca L. (Vitaceae), used in producing juices and wines. The present work aimed to identify the mite species associated with American grapevines (V. labrusca), their possible natural enemies, and their population fluctuations. The selected varieties were: Bordô (Bd) and Couderc (Cc and Cd) in Dois Lajeados (RS), Bordô (Bi) in Imigrante (RS) and Bordô (Bp), in Putinga (RS). The study was conducted monthly between March 2017 and March 2018, evaluating 20 randomly selected plants from each municipality. We found 5,452 mites belonging to 13 families, distributed across 29 genera and 42 species, or belonging to the suborder Oribatida. Higher mite richness was observed on Cc (12 species) and higher abundance on Cd (2,812 specimens), Cc (868) and Bi (799). Among the predatory mite families, Stigmaeidae had the highest abundance (896 specimens), followed by Phytoseiidae (746). The most abundant species observed were Euseius mesembrinus (Dean), Agistemus riograndensis Johann & Ferla, Tydeus californicus (Banks), Polyphagotars-onemus latus (Banks) and Tarsonemus sp. This is the first study in southern Brazil that evaluates and reports the mite fauna and its ecology on American grape varieties, with high abundance and frequency of predatory mites. This work is important to assist in implementing management techniques that promote the maintenance of predatory mite species in these vineyards.
