Various studies have examined the influence of SPA in the context of exercise through the prism of BPNT, showing that SPA as a source of control decreases perceived satisfaction of basic psychological needs (Brunet & Sabiston, 2009), and more so increases the thwarting of those needs (Alcaraz-Ibáñez et al, 2015).
