Abstract

In this piece of work, the Objectives role will be determine the link to the surgical prophylaxis protocol and it influence of modification in the rate of wound infection in the orthopaedic surgery department during a clinical placement that will be discussed as this will be highlighted during the compilation of this study. Resources and Methodology:Total hip or knee replacement operated patients at the University teaching Hospital Insular of Gran Canaria where Follows by trained employees during two periods of explanation: Period A:Twenty four Months Period B:Twelve month. Between the two periods a modification of surgical prophylaxis was carried out. ResoultsThe group of patients/clients we studied were 1088. Period A: The 3.3% of the interventions were infected, Compared with the 2% of period B, (p= 0, 14).The accurate prophylaxis went from 8, 7% to 32, 7% (p= 0,001).Although we determined the index of NNIS in 383 patients /clients, being more frequently the risk 2 in the period A (16.8%) than the period B (5.4%) (p<0.001). Renal failure frequency were higher in period A (3.4% vs. 1.6%; p=0.04), however the diabetes and Neoplasic were Nevertheless in both periods. The predominant in period B was the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (CPOD), (14.6 vs. 11.0; p=0.05%) and the obesity (12.8 vs. 10.3; p=0.12). ConclutionsBy way of conclusion the modification carried out, was not followed for all the orthopaedic surgeons; although it appear a fall in the post-surgically infections rate, which is totally committed to a, probably, an important avoid hospital cost and safer patient if the scheme is tried and implemented.
