EduCOR: An Educational and Career-Oriented Recommendation Ontology

Abstract: With the increased dependence on online learning platforms and educational resource repositories, a unified representation of digital learning resources becomes essential to support a dynamic and multi-source learning experience. We introduce the EduCOR ontology, an educational, career-oriented ontology that provides a foundation for representing online learning resources for personalised learning systems. The ontology is designed to enable learning material repositories to offer learning path recommendations,… Show more

“…The current line of research is still in an early stage. In our first steps in user modelling in e-learning platforms, we have published EduCOR ontology [11] for personalised recommendations of educational resources. EduCOR consists of different parts and has a focus on user profiling, as can be seen in Figure 2.…”

“…WASPEC [3] utilises a semantic framework that models learner profiles and categorises personalisation parameters to learning preferences and accessibility. Our latest publication, EduCOR ontology [11], contributes in that line as it is analysed in Section 6. Another interesting approach is the formulation of the learning session graph to achieve personalisation in informal learning settings in information wikis [15].…”

“…Educational recommender systems require a proper framework that models learning processes and from which sound recommendations for learning activities and materials can be derived. A categorization of workplace learning goals can help to build such a framework by describing the exact objectives and reasons why learners engage in workplace learning and by enabling transparency and interoperability of recommender systems (Ilkou et al, 2021;Reichow et al, 2022).…”

“…Based on GeoNames and Wikidata, Reference [9] transformed and integrated geographic data in various formats from different sources to create CKGG, an ontology for geography at the high school level. Reference [10] introduced the EduCOR ontology, an educational, career-oriented ontology that provided the basis for online learning resources representing personalized learning systems. Since the domain ontology constructed by these scholars are relatively large in number of entities and relationships, their work requires multi-person collaboration, using a variety of complex technologies and a large number of tools, which makes these methods inefficient in terms of time.…”
