Python, which is widely used today, is one of the open-source programming languages. In the Python program, its interface is done through the PyQt5 library. With PyQt5, it is possible to develop object-based software that takes up less space on the disk and runs faster. In this study, an educational calculation and analysis program (ITUPSA) was designed for the Electric power systems course using the Python interface. Electric power systems are one of the fundamental courses in electrical engineering. This main course is taught in three sub-course groups as energy transmission-distribution, energy flow and energy economy. The energy transmission-distribution course package constitutes the first and most comprehensive part of the electric power systems group. In the energy transmission-distribution, the creation of the transmission line model and the calculation of the line parameters form an important part of the training. This section contains very detailed mathematical calculations and it is very important that students get the correct result as a result of these calculations. This can be possible with a lot of practice. The interface design was made by students and faculty to teach practical examples correctly. This developed (ITUPSA) python-based interface program is very suitable for calculation and analysis exercises in both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Electrical Engineering department. The purpose of this study is to create a python-based interface in order to solve the problems related to these lines, to make the types of short, medium and long power transmission lines correct and understandable. In the study, after selecting the type of energy transmission line and all parameters related to the line, the necessary mathematical analysis can be made and also the analysis results can be plotted. The analysis program is available in two languages, English and Turkish.

Current power systems are undergoing a rapid and complex transformation due to the integration of distributed generation. Load flow analysis is increasingly necessary to evaluate not only the operating point of the existing power system but also the design of future expansions. There are a wide variety of power system analysis packages used for load flow analysis. Of these, PowerFactory, one of the tools most widely used by network operators, is implemented for the present learning approach. In fact, one of the challenges for electric utility companies is the lack of experts who are familiar with this type of commercial tool. In the present work, several scenarios were defined and implemented using PowerFactory, covering common real‐life situations in power systems, such as the connection of a new line or a capacitor bank, or the installation of a renewable energy power plant. In this regard, the goal of the present teaching method was to complement the educational competences of power system engineers. As such, the proposed method was implemented in both an Electrical Engineering Degree course and a Master's Degree course in Industrial Engineering, where useful application feedback from students was obtained. Furthermore, the proposed approach is easily replicable for teaching/learning activities at other academic institutions.

The increasing penetration of distributed generators may harm power system and its control and operations. The microgrid offers a better solution for the issues in grid operation. Undergraduate electrical engineering and postgraduate power system and power electronics students need to understand the working of microgrid with renewable energy resources along with the optimization and scheduling of power quality custom power devices. To cater better understanding of the microgrid with renewable resources, wind, solar, distributed generators, distributed energy storage devices, DSTATCOM, and plug-in electric vehicle charging load are included in this work presented. In this paper, multiobjective optimization for the operation of microgrid to account for uncertainties in a stochastic energy resources management system is considered. Nonlinear constraint optimization to reduce the running cost, losses, and voltage variations is focused for the optimization. Loss sensitivity analysis is used to find the location wind, solar, distributed generators, distributed energy storage devices, and DSTATCOM. Firefly algorithm is used to optimize the size of distributed generators and DSTATCOM. Optimization reduced the loss, power taken from the grid and improves the voltages in the system. This paper is self-explanatory to the undergraduate and postgraduate students to understand the power flow analysis of microgrid with hybrid renewable energies and optimization technique.
