A 21. század társadalma a digitális átmenet tanújaként vonul be a történelembe. A változás eredményeként az információk – a hagyományos, nyomtatott megjelenés mellett – digitális formában, online térben válnak bárki számára elérhetővé. Kutatásomban arra a kérdésre keresem a választ, miért mellőzi a 10-20 éves (5-13. évfolyamon tanuló) korosztály a könyvtárak használatát. Jelen tanulmány egy nagyobb projekt része. A témában végzett felmérés eredményeinek kiértékelése jelenleg is tart, ám a szakirodalom áttekintése alapján célom bemutatni a jelenséget, felhívva a figyelmet a könyvtár- és információkeresés által kiváltott szorongásra. A szorongás leküzdésére tett kísérletek hatékonyan járulnak hozzá a könyvtárak népszerűségének növekedéséhez is. Tanulmányomban célom bemutatni, az iskolai könyvtárak szerepét a könyvtár- és információkeresés által kiváltott szorongás leküzdésének érdekében. A téma ugyan nem újszerű, de aktualitását mi sem bizonyítja jobban annál, mint hogy az 1980-as évek óta folyamatosan jelennek meg újabb és újabb irodalmak a témában. A kutatás – az eredmények elemzésének – jelenlegi fázisában a könyvtár által kiváltott szorongás egyértelmű jelenlétét nem jelenthetjük ki. Az adatok további elemzése, a korrelációvizsgálatok és az így kapott eredmények vélhetőleg igazolják az általam felállított hipotézist.

The author wrote a series for the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library’s blog that explored the connections between true crime and medicine. Each of the ten entries in the “Disorder in the Court” series tells a true story of a crime or court case that involved a medical diagnosis. The entry then delves into the etiology and pathophysiology of the particular syndrome, using information from research articles and point-of-care databases available through the library. This blog series shows the potential of storytelling in demonstrating how to conduct library research.

Educational escape rooms can engage students in the development of information literacy skills while interacting with information formats and environments authentic to their disciplines. In business and entrepreneurship education, escape rooms offer the additional benefit of developing the characteristics of the entrepreneurial mindset, such as adaptive thinking, problem solving, enthusiasm, and decisiveness. This case study explores game-based learning for library instruction in entrepreneurship education. Using Eukel and Morrell’s (2021) escape room design cycle as a framework, it analyzes the development, testing, implementation, and results of an original escape room, Exfiltration! A Competitive Intelligence Virtual Escape Room, implemented as a course-integrated information literacy learning activity in an upper-level undergraduate new venture creation course. Limitations of the escape room are identified, and opportunities for iterative improvement are described. Recent scholarship on the application of entrepreneurial mindset, business research competencies, gamification, escape room pedagogy, and escape rooms in library instruction is discussed. This case study responds to the call from Taraldsen et al. (2020) for more small-scale studies of educational escape rooms outside of the STEM and health science disciplines.
