“…Alberta's minimum wage is among the lowest in the country (Government of Alberta, 2013) and is deemed inadequate to meet basic needs and maintain a safe, decent, dignified standard of living (Vibrant Communities Calgary, 2013). Researchers have called for governments to commit to passing legislation that ensures that wages and income supports are at a living standard (Gaetz, 2010;Hulchanski, 2009).
