Abstract: underland: a football city and a city that is about football. A place where the epicentre of life is the football teamand that team is Sunderland Association Football Club (SAFC). Those born in Sunderland talk about Sunderland AFC at the pub, endlessly play out Jimmy Montgomery's double save from the 1973 FA Cup final and regard Bob Stokoe as a god.
