Introduction: Burnout is a significant concern among healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, as it can lead to adverse effects on their well-being, job satisfaction, and patient care delivery. However, no previous study was conducted among pharmacy professionals in Nepal to assess their burnout cases. This study aimed to evaluate burnout presence and explore its associated factors among pharmacy professionals in Nepal. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among pharmacy professionals of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The validated Burnout Assessment Tool measured burnout across multiple domains. Data on demographic and work-related characteristics were also collected. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests were used to analyze the data and identify significant associations among the variables. Results: Most participants were in the age group of 21–30 (64.7%), had a graduate degree (47.3%), and worked in hospital pharmacy settings (49.1%). Exhaustion was the most common (39.7%) burnout experienced, while mental distance and emotional and cognitive impairment were reported in one-fourth of the participants. Alternatively, only one in five participants showed secondary symptoms of burnout. Gender, working hours, exercise frequency, and substance abuse were significantly associated with burnout domains. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the prevalence and factors associated with burnout among pharmacy professionals in Nepal. The findings highlight the significance of addressing burnout in this crucial healthcare sector, with gender, exercise frequency, and substance use emerging as notable contributors. These results underscore the need for targeted interventions and support systems to promote the well-being of pharmacy professionals and ensure the continued delivery of high-quality healthcare services in Nepal.

The Effect of Burnout Syndrome on Graduate Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 outbreak has had an immense impact on academic life and mental health of graduate students. Graduate students had experienced obligatory curfews and quarantines due to the COVID-19 outbreak directly impacting their mental health and triggering academic burnout. This Ph.D. thesis aimed to evaluate the effect of Burnout Syndrome in graduate students during the COVID-19. The current thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter that introduces the etiology of Burnout Syndrome, concept of Academic Burnout, including its factors associated, implications and consequences, as well as the impact of COVID- 19 among graduate students. Chapter two presents the first part of the current research, which is a systematic review of the COVID-19 pandemic on academic burnout researched according to the PRISMA guideline. Chapter three displays the second part of this research, which is assessing the family functionality, perceived social support, and coping with burnout syndrome among graduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chapter four explores the factors associated with burnout syndrome among graduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The last two chapters were a cross-section study with 519 graduate students from master's and Ph.D./DLA degrees. Chapter five presents the novel findings of this thesis, including the recommendations, and implications for practice and research. Finally, chapter six shows the list of publications related to the current thesis and other topics. The findings in this thesis can provide valuable insights into the patterns and predictors of academic burnout among graduate students. As well as helping higher education institutions, especially in challenging environments like a pandemic, to better recognize external factors contributing to academic burnout. Furthermore, these findings can be a resource for prospective graduate students and university administrators, aiding them in identifying, advocating for, and implementing necessary changes to support individuals experiencing academic burnout and proactively prevent its development in others.

Effective stress management in the workplace is key to improving the performance of employees and the entire company. Focusing on measures to manage stress and create a supportive work environment not only benefits employee health and productivity but also acts as a catalyst for fundamental changes in the corporate response to various problems. This promotes a healthy work culture that supports user happiness and long-term organizational success. The study analyzed stress management approaches and their relationship with employee performance in the Prishtina region, including a total of 60 participants who answered a survey questionnaire. The results were processed with the SPSS program, using correlation analysis to confirm the hypotheses. Workplace stress, which is influenced by various factors, requires a comprehensive management approach for employee well-being and organizational effectiveness. The complex relationship between stress and performance highlights the need for adaptive strategies and resource optimization. Organizations in Prishtina should prioritize targeted stress management, emphasizing a supportive culture, leadership training, and addressing local stressors. Integrating flexible work arrangements and technology management, along with wellness programs, promotes a holistic approach to improved satisfaction and performance. This study adds to the literature on stress management, highlighting nuanced interventions for different stressors.
