“…The concerns associated with these guidelines have been discussed previously (Kean and Buchanan, 2005;Kean et al, 2008). Recent guidelines specific for the treatment of acute and chronic low back pain ((Guidelines, 1993;Hochberg et al, 1995a, b;Tannenbaum et al, 1996, American College of Rheumatology, 2000Tannenbaum et al, 2005;American Gastroenterology Association, 2006Airaksinen et al, 2006;Arnau et al, 2006;), have advocated a balanced approach in the use of analgesics and NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors. As a cautionary note we agree (Kean and Buchanan, 2005;Kean et al, 2008) with the American Heart Association guidelines which advocate not only minimal use of the COX -2 inhibitors but in only selected cases (Antman et al, 2007).…”
