and Key Results■ Penrose's legacy is a curious one. Much cited, but little read, her work is recognized as one of the main intellectual foundations for modern resource based theories of business strategy and theories of organizational routines and capabilities.■ However, Penrose did not aim to contribute to the field of strategy; her goal was to advance understanding of the nature of the firm and its growth. Nevertheless, there are important insights in Penrose's work that have implications for international business and for strategy.■ We discuss some of the implications of Penrose's work as well as its limitations. We also briefly discuss the usefulness of adopting a "Penrosean" capability perspective in multinational enterprise (MNE) strategy analysis.■ The dynamic capabilities framework puts entrepreneurial management into the theory of multinational enterprise, a task Penrose left untouched.

The aim of this paper is to expound Penrose's contribution to the theory of the firm, and examine the contribution of her thinking to economics and business strategy, as well as to discuss some limitations and provide some generalizations of Penrose's work. We also discuss implications for managerial practice and public policy. We claim that Penrose's contribution was seminal. In recognizing the significance of organization to generate new knowledge she went well beyond the bounds of even her own agenda; from a theory of the growth of firms, to a theory of the generation of organizational knowledge and beyond. Exploring the relationship between environmental collaboration and business performance with mediating effect of responsible consumption and production

This study aims to examine the relationship between inter-organisational and intraorganisational environmental collaboration practices and business performance. It also investigates the mediating role of responsible consumption and production practices on various environmental collaboration and business performance relationships.Drawing from the relational view and resource-based view, a model to analyse environmental collaboration, responsible consumption and production practices and business performance relationships is theorised and examined using a sample of 249 from manufacturing firms. Direct and mediating relationships between constructs have been assessed through structural equation modelling technique. Environmental collaboration with suppliers, customers and logistics providers directly influences firms' business performance. However, mediation analysis suggests the direct relationship between environmental collaboration practices with suppliers and business performance weakened in the presence of responsible consumption and production practices, indicating partial mediation between environmental collaboration with suppliers and business performance relationship. Also, direct relationships between environmental collaboration with customers and logistics providers and business performance become nonsignificant in the presence of responsible consumption and production practices, indicating the full mediating effect of responsible consumption and production practices. This study extends supply chain collaboration and sustainable development goal literature by offering valuable insights into environmental collaboration, responsible consumption and production and business performance relationships. The findings can assist practitioners in improving business performance through environmental collaboration and responsible consumption and production practices.
