Edge-to-Edge Oriented Self-Assembly of ReS2 Nanoflakes

Abstract: The self-assembly of two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, an emerging research area, still remains largely unexplored. The strong interlayer attraction between 2D nanosheets leads to face-to-face stacking rather than edge-to-edge coupling. We demonstrate, for the first time, how one can induce and control an edge-to-edge self-assembly process for 2D nanomaterials. The extremely weak van der Waals coupling and strong anisotropy of ReS2 allow us to realize an oriented self-assembly (OSA) process. The aspect ratio… Show more

“…X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was employed to confirm the elemental composition and bonding of the ReS 2 NWs (Figure S3, Supporting Information), and the results agreed well with those reported in the literature . The Raman spectrum (Figure S4, Supporting Information) revealed the typical peaks of ReS 2 corresponding to the in‐plane (E g ) and out‐of‐plane (A g ) vibrational modes because of the low crystal symmetry and the association of these modes with the fundamental Raman modes that are coupled to each other and to acoustic phonons .…”

“…1f, the interlayer distance was measured to be 0.62 nm, corresponding to the (001) plane of ReS 2 . [19][20][21] X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was utilized to examine the elemental compositions and bonding configurations. To evidence the existence of N, commercial ReS 2 powder was also characterized as a comparison object.…”

“…[31] As shown in Figure 3a, the 2H-MoS 2 possessed a hexagonal structure, while 1T phase had an octahedral structure with higher conductivity. [33] Copyright 2016, American Chemical Society. Firstly, the 2H-MoS 2 film was synthesized via CVD on mirror glassy carbon.…”

“…Additionally, Medhekar et al introduced the analogous electrochemical method to effectively regulate photoluminescence of MoS 2 by controlling the quantity of intercalated Li + ions . Other than MoS 2 , Fu et al also made use of electrochemical lithiation to intercalate Li + into ReS 2 to realize an oriented self‐assembly process . The interlayer distance of the as‐prepared sample was expanded to 0.63 nm (Figure e), indicating the feasibility of the metal ion intercalation extended to other 2D materials.…”
