Edge profile measurements using Thomson scattering on the KSTAR tokamak

Abstract: In the KSTAR Tokamak, a "Tangential Thomson Scattering" (TTS) diagnostic system has been designed and installed to measure electron density and temperature profiles. In the edge system, TTS has 12 optical fiber bundles to measure the edge profiles with 10-15 mm spatial resolution. These 12 optical fibers and their spatial resolution are not enough to measure the pedestal width with a high accuracy but allow observations of L-H transition or H-L transitions at the edge. For these measurements, the prototype ITE… Show more

“…The kinetic pro les presented in Fig. 2c are obtained at the outboard side from Thomson Scattering systems (TS) 62 for the electron temperature and density and Charge Exchange Spectroscopy (CES) 63 for the impurity Carbon temperature and toroidal velocity. A Two-Colour Interferometer (TCI) with the CO 2 laser and Diodepumped-solid-state (DPSS) laser 64 and Electron Cyclotron Emission (ECE) measurements are used to determine the electron density and the temperature complementary to the TS measurements.…”
